Before Veterans Day…

On the 11th hour... on the 11th day of 1918...

an Armistice was signed.

The Allied Powers and the Central Powers agreed to lay down their arms and end what was then considered ‘the Great War’. Some countries call it Armistice day. Some countries call it Remembrance day.

We now call it Veterans Day.

Since then, we honor the men and women who served and survived.  They gave years.  They went to the farthest corners of our world.  They went with an understanding.  An understanding... they may not come back.

How lucky are we that these valiant still number among us.  Let us shake their hand.  Let us say a silent thank you.  Let us resolve To take their example.  To defend these cherished ideals of virtue... of endurance... of an unshakeable faith that they will never be far from our hearts.

They took an oath.  ‘To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic’.

Let us now vow to protect and defend the heroes that protected and defended us.
